Here are some personal brand tips that will help you!

Understand what you want your brand to be.

Firstly you need to understand what you want your brand to be and how you want it to be perceived. Here are some things to consider; what do you want to be known for? What are your strengths? What are your interests? If you have varied interests, will you be interested in this area in 6 months’ time?  Choose 1-3 areas of interest to focus on.

Know your target audience.

Research your audience and identify what a typical audience member looks like. For example if you are looking for a job your potential employer is your target audience.
Now that you know who your audience is create a profile of them. This will help you to understand how you are going to communicate and connect with them both visually, and in your written content.

You need building your personal brand online. Having an online presence will have a bigger impact than just a resume alone. Chances are if you have applied for a job the recruiter is going to google your name. As well as doing background checks they are looking to see how you communicate and what your personality is like.

Setup professional Social Media profiles.

There are so many to choose from but a good place to start is LinkedIn, this is a great platform for professional networking. Make sure everything you post or tweet in your social media profiles has a purpose and is contributing towards your brand.

Build a website.

Start with 1-3 pages. Make sure it highlights your accomplishments, skills and knowledge. Include a bio and a resume and link your website to your professional social platforms.

Write blogs.

Try and do this a couple of times a week – write content that your audience will find interesting and educational. Don’t forget to keep all of your online profiles consistent!

The world around you is constantly changing.

It’s important that your professional brand is maintained and always evolving.  No matter how well you know your industry or area of expertise, you need to remain up-to-date with the latest changes and trends. Be proactive, review and reinvent your brand regularly.
